Privacy Policy

In short: Wave X has no accounts, no analytics and no ads. The app sends only what it needs to check for updates and, with Pro, to check your license. This website uses no cookies and no analytics. Buying Pro happens at Polar, under Polar’s own privacy policy.

Who is responsible

Wave X is made by Frooty Labs (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: support@wavex.live.

The app

Update check. While “Check for updates automatically” is turned on (it is on when you first install Wave X), Wave X asks www.wavex.live once a day whether a new version is out. You can also check yourself with Check for Updates…. The request carries the versions of Wave X and of Sparkle, the update software it uses, and, like any internet request, your IP address. It carries no information about you or your Mac beyond that. When you install an update, Wave X downloads it from www.wavex.live.

Activating Wave X Pro. When you enter a license key, Wave X sends Polar, the store that sells Pro, your license key and a coded identifier for your Mac. The identifier is a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware identifier; the hardware identifier itself never leaves your Mac. The hash stays the same for your Mac, so it is a pseudonymous identifier, not an anonymous one. Polar also receives the activation’s name (“Mac” and the first 8 characters of that hash) and, like any internet request, your IP address. If you use Need Help? to restore Pro on an erased or repaired Mac, the same information is sent again.

Weekly license check. About once a week, while Wave X runs and is online, it sends Polar your license key, the activation’s ID and the same coded identifier, to confirm the license is still valid on this Mac. If the check can’t connect, nothing changes and Wave X tries again later.

Your license on your Mac. Wave X keeps your license key and activation in your Mac’s keychain, so Pro survives reinstalling the app. It stays on your Mac.

Lock screen. If you turn on Keep Lock Screen in Sync, Wave X reads which wallpaper macOS has chosen, so it can tell you when your lock screen isn’t showing the wave. This happens only on your Mac; nothing is sent anywhere.

Contact Support. In Wave X, Contact Support writes an email for you in your own mail app, with the last characters of your license key and what happened. Nothing is sent until you send that email yourself.

Everything else (your Colors, settings, presets and lock screen movies) stays on your Mac. Wave X has no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising.

Buying Pro

Polar sells Wave X Pro as merchant of record: it runs the checkout, takes payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and sends your receipt and license key. Checkout is a separate service on Polar’s website, governed by Polar’s buyer terms and Polar’s privacy policy. Polar collects what you enter at checkout (such as your name, email address and billing details) and may collect device and usage data, including through cookies, as its policy describes. We don’t see your full card details.

Polar shares with us what we need to provide Pro and support: your email address, your order and its status, and your license key and its activations. We use it to answer your questions, to process refunds, and to keep the business records the law requires.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Cloudflare hosts it. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and the details of each request (such as the page and your browser’s name) in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse. We don’t keep a log of visits; Cloudflare shows us only totals, such as the number of requests. The Buy Pro button takes you to Polar’s checkout, which is not part of this website.

Do Not Track. We don’t track you across websites, so every visit is treated as if Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control were on.

Email

If you write to support@wavex.live, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to answer you and to keep a record of support and refund requests. Our email is hosted by Zoho.

We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Why we use it

For people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (activating Pro, checking your license, processing refunds, answering questions about your purchase); legitimate interests (offering updates, keeping the website and licenses secure, answering other questions); and legal obligations (keeping tax and accounting records).

Where it is processed

Polar, Cloudflare and Zoho may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these providers use safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long it is kept

Your choices and rights

You can turn off the update check in Wave X › Settings › General, and use Wave X without Pro, which sends nothing to Polar. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for access to your personal data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its use, or to get a copy to take elsewhere. Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws have the right to know, correct and delete their personal information; we don’t sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To ask, email support@wavex.live. We may ask for your order number or license key to confirm the data is yours, and we answer within the time the law sets (usually one month). For data Polar holds as its own, we will point you to Polar or pass your request on. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your data protection authority. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

Wave X and this website are not directed to children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Security

The app and the website use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Updates are signed and checked by the app before they install. We collect as little as we can, and only we can read the support inbox. To report a security problem, email support@wavex.live.

Changes to this policy

This page always shows the current version. If we make a material change, we will update this page before it takes effect and mention it in the release notes of the next version of Wave X. Earlier versions are available on request.
